Observe the Sabbath

All glory to God for yet another beautiful time in God’s presence today. God revealed unto us through His word: ”Observe the Sabbath” Ex 20:8-11; Matt 12:1-12; Mark 2:27-28.

By definition, Sabbath day is a period of separation unto God for Devotion and Worship. Intentional but personal spiritual worship, devotion to God alone – avoiding distraction i.e no work, no pleasure. God is our ultimate provider and He is in control Ex 16:22-30.
The idea of the Sabbath in not a specific day as in Saturday or Sunday, but a routine personal time or devotion with God.

If God is your Lord, it is expected that you spend time alone with Him as He enjoys your 100% worship – this is what the Sabbath is all about – Ex 31:13-15; Ex 34:1-3.

God has also revealed to us the Benefits of observing the Sabbath:
1. For our own good: it is for us to rest and rest in God – Mk 2:27
2. Enjoy God’s focus attention – James 4:8; Jer 29:13-14
3. Access to secret things of God – those who spend time with God enjoy some secret that other do not – Deut 29:29; Dan 2:19, 47
4. Enjoy devine protection – Ps 91:1
5. Enjoy God’s blessings – there is a general blessing upon all God’s creation, Christians and there is a distinctive blessing that comes upon whosoever comes close to God
